"There is no good reason to believe that a Chinese base in the country is being seriously considered, and even if there were one it would not be nearly as significant as U.S. officials make it out to be. The U.S. is guarding against a phantom threat that wouldn’t be all that dangerous if it were real, . . ."

As I read the foregoing, I could not help think about how the U.S. pretends to view Russia's concerns about the expansion of NATO as being exaggerated.
