One can only wonder how American troops would react if they were actually sent into Gaza and they could see first hand what was going on. Personally, it is hard to believe Biden is cognisant of what he is doing. He seems afraid of the Israel Lobby and of the Pentagaon Lobby and of the Evangelicals and who knows what else. So he is frozen in his tracks and does nothing, hoping it will be over by the time of the next election.
He might be afraid of the politics of criticizing Israel, as many politicians are, but in his case I think his history shows he is a fanatical Zionist. Mother Jones had an article about this.
And more generally, Western governments are in a bind. They have blathered for years about Western values and it was always hypocritical, but nowadays, with the internet, we don’t have to have our information filtered through the mainstream press and that has had some effect even on press coverage. The level of destruction and suffering is so overwhelming and so well documented it can’t be hidden. Israeli soldiers even post videos of themselves looting and destroying homes with great big smiles on their faces.
But none of this stops the Biden Administration from spouting the usual talking points.
