What on earth makes you think that anyone in the foreign policy establishment wishes the Iranian people well?
They most assuredly wish them ill, just like they actively wish the people of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, etc. ill, and do all that they can to make these malevolent wishes manifest.
Didn’t Iran and the US enjoy normal economic relations before the 1979 revolution when the Shah was in power? How did the Iranian people feel about how things were working then?
