This development is both deeply troubling and entirely predictable. Trump glories in cruelty and is surrounding himself with those who do the same. So much of the world is descending into self-conscious tribalism. We are a long way from Nazism, if only because Trump's true metier is self-indulgence rather than self-sacrifice, but the delight in casting off the "burden" of civilization is very much the same.
I don't recall any roadblocks previously.
