There is a U.S.-established precedent for what the Houthis are doing. It is a form of exercising the R2P, the "Responsibility To Protect." The Houthis don't control the banking system, so they can't seize foreign reserves or eject countries from the SWiFT system, so they resort to those tools at their disposal. To protect the people of Gaza, they are trying to choke off shipping to Israel. In other words, this action should be viewed as a form of "sanctions."

This assumes, among other things, that the United States doesn't want the war to spread.

And of course the siege of Gaza is a war crime. The foreign policy establishment is fully aware and consciously supports this crime. They will continue to support this and other crimes until they start to face very real and very personal consequences.

For sociopaths learn only from reward and punishment, but they are quite adept at learning.
