Nothing to show for it but negative consequences. Well, that is our politics domestically and in all things foreign policy related. Bipartisan agreement abounds for such tomfoolery.

Our ruling oligarchs have too much invested in our neo-liberal and neo-con political economy. Our War Industry alone is a one trillion dollar cash cow for these folks. That’s why they need the Josh Rogins of the world to keep perpetuating the myth that the US Empire is a force for good, for truth, for justice and freedom. These marketers for the War Industry are even more indispensable now when polls show 70% of Americans believe we are on the wrong track.

The fact that Pelosi's visit did not immediately trigger World War III is not the appropriate standard by which to judge the wisdom of Pelosi's visit. It heightened tensions with China considerably. It immediately triggered China to cease cooperation on a range of issues of mutual concern with the United States, including climate change and the international drug trade.

Future historians may well look back on Pelosi's visit as a factor that eventually led to a much more direct confrontation.
