Westerners cannot process this, but in many, many parts of the world, Churchill is viewed much the way Hitler is viewed in the West. It's pretty easy to understand why: if you're from India and your grandparents knew people who starved to death in 1943 because some fat, bigoted white guy in England thought they were "breeding like rabbits," well, you just might like like that fat Englishman very much!
The Churchill Cult is one of the most dangerous political forces in the modern world. Comparing every geopolitical event through the familiar tropes of "appeasement/Neville Chamberlain/Munich in 1938" is as stupid as it is uncreative.
It would behoove our political elites to understand that (a) "History" is not synonymous with "Western European history" (b) there is Western European history besides World War II (c) World War II history besides the European Theater, and (d) there is World War II European Theater history besides the Western Front. Enemy at the Gates, people, it's a good movie!
Not to mention that there are people other than white people or people living in the West, and that those people have as much value and are not NPCs playing minor supporting roles or designated villains in Muh Great Drama.
Excellent post, Daniel! As my business law professor would say again and again as we looked at case law on this or that, "Is it happening today? It's happening all the time."
Churchill is also a major war criminal -- he personally commanded the chemical poison attacks on Sadam's birthplace and several other cities in Iraq

I'm glad that you take it upon yourself to respond to shoddy but high-profile op-eds like this.
