Will Biden Understand the Message from Michigan?
The president is either oblivious to the danger or he doesn’t care enough to make any changes.
Connor Echols comments on the protest vote in Tuesday’s Michigan Democratic primary:
A protest vote in Michigan against President Joe Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza dramatically exceeded expectations Tuesday, highlighting the possibility that his stance on the conflict could cost him the presidency in November.
More than 100,000 Michiganders voted “uncommitted” in yesterday’s presidential primary, earning 13.3% of the tally with most votes counted and blasting past organizers’ goal of 10,000 protest votes.
The protest in Michigan was significant and encouraging to see, and Biden would be wise to pay attention to the grievances of the voters that he has ignored up until now. The 100,000+ votes for “uncommitted” in Michigan points to a larger problem for Biden: a sizable percentage of his political coalition is either disaffected or disgusted with him and his record, and many of these voters will not show up for him in November if things remain the same. The president is either oblivious to the danger or he doesn’t care enough to make any changes.
