Vance's Unwelcome Meddling
U.S. leaders should not meddle in the internal politics of other countries, especially when it concerns elections in allied countries.
Vance has already begun antagonizing our European allies:
A German government spokesperson said on Friday that U.S. Vice President JD Vance should not interfere in the German election campaign ahead of a snap poll on February 23.
"I don't think it is right for foreigners, including those from friendly foreign countries, to interfere so intensively in an election campaign in the middle of an election period," the spokesperson said.
The Wall Street Journal had cited Vance as saying he would urge German politicians to work with all parties, including the far-right Alternative for Germany, which other parties have refused to cooperate with.
U.S. leaders should not meddle in the internal politics of other countries, especially when it concerns elections in allied countries. It is not our business, and it will sour relations with our allies for no good reason. Trumpists often say they want to deprioritize Europe to focus on other parts of the world, but they haven’t broken the habit of treating European allies as if they were vassals.
