Trump's Deranged Iran Demands

The president seems to be demanding Iran’s unconditional surrender:

Donald Trump has called for a “complete give-up” by Iran and denied pursuing a ceasefire in the war between the Islamic republic and Israel.

In comments after leaving the G7 summit early to focus on the conflict, the US president called for a “real end” to the war rather than a temporary truce and predicted a further intensification of Israeli strikes.

Trump’s demands are deranged and illegitimate. No government that wants to survive would agree to these terms. The president has been in the habit of giving Iran extreme ultimatums, and that is what led to the outbreak of the current conflict. Another unreasonable ultimatum will lead to further escalation and bloodshed.

Iran will reject these demands in the strongest terms. Iran fought the war with Iraq for eight years before it ended in a stalemate, so it is doubtful that their leadership is going to capitulate after less than a week of bombing.
