Trump Launches His Pointless Trade War

The Trump administration is going ahead with its pointless, destructive trade war against our neighbors:

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that there was no chance for Mexico or Canada to prevent 25% tariffs from taking effect on Tuesday, sending financial markets reeling on the prospect of new economic barriers in North America.

The president leaves our neighbors no choice except to retaliate in kind, and that seems all but guaranteed to do significant harm to the economies of all three countries. If there is nothing that their governments can do to avert this unprovoked economic assault, they will be compelled to fight back however they can. Trump may be setting a new record by driving the U.S. economy into a recession within the first quarter of the first year of his new term.
