The Backlash Against Biden Over Gaza Continues to Grow
The war in Gaza is hurting Biden’s reelection campaign more than he and his allies realize.
The war in Gaza is hurting Biden’s reelection campaign more than he and his allies realize. This report offers some evidence that it is one of the issues that may flip Virginia to Trump:
Alex Keena, associate professor of political science at the Virginia Commonwealth University, said Gaza was the key election issue in the state for younger people. Without a shift in policy from the White House, he argued the conflict presented a significant risk to Biden’s attempt to hold onto Virginia.
The polling from Virginia shows that the state is very competitive this year. Virginia has been a fairly safe Democratic-leaning state since 2008, but that may no longer be the case. Biden cannot afford to lose Virginia, and if Virginia is at risk of flipping the president’s campaign is in worse shape than a lot of people have assumed. The war isn’t the only or the most important reason for Biden’s predicament, but his support for the war is doing significant harm to his reelection effort. The president and his advisers seem to be oblivious or indifferent to this with only five months left until Election Day.
