Most Americans Support a Permanent Ceasefire
Americans want their government to pursue an end to this war.
A new Data for Progress survey finds that most likely American voters support calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza:
Sixty-one percent of likely voters, including a majority of Democrats (76%) and Independents (57%) and a plurality of Republicans (49%), support the U.S. calling for a permanent ceasefire and a de-escalation of violence in Gaza.
When presented with arguments for and against a permanent ceasefire, a majority (52%) still favors it and only 34% are opposed. The argument against a ceasefire tracks very closely with the administration’s rhetoric, so this might be a useful measure for how little appeal Biden’s position has with the public. Americans want their government to pursue an end to this war. The survey also shows that they prioritize humanitarian and diplomatic options over providing further military assistance.
