Liz Truss, Overzealous Ideologue

Overzealous and ignorant are always a poor combination in any field.

Liz Truss may not be prime minister for much longer after I write this, but before she is replaced it may be worth discussing why she has proven to be such a disastrous leader of the Conservative Party. Before ascending to the leadership, Truss served as Foreign Secretary in Boris Johnson’s government. During that stint, she distinguished herself mainly by being an extremely hawkish ideologue and remarkably ignorant about other parts of the world. Overzealous and ignorant are always a poor combination in any field. That should have been a warning sign, but it seems not to have registered during the leadership contest.
