ICC Issues Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant
Top Congressional leaders are already threatening the Court with sanctions if the warrants aren’t withdrawn. This is how thuggish rogue states act.
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for the prime minister and former defense minister of Israel for war crimes and crimes against humanity today:
The court said it found “reasonable grounds” to believe Netanyahu and Gallant bore responsibility for crimes including the use of starvation as a method of war and for “murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.”
Issuing the arrest warrants was the right thing to do. It is unfortunate that they were not issued sooner, but it is an important step towards bringing these officials to justice. Considering the intense political pressure from the U.S. to stop these warrants from being issued, it is to the Court’s immense credit that they went ahead with them. It is doubtful that Netanyahu and Gallant will stand trial for what they have done, but it is important that their crimes haven’t been overlooked or swept under the rug.
