End the Illegal Military Presence in Syria Before It's Too Late
None of this has anything to do with protecting the United States, and it puts U.S. troops in danger for a mission that is both unauthorized and unnecessary.
U.S. troops in Syria have been in harm’s way for years, but this past week they were put at risk by strikes carried out by a NATO ally. CIA Director Bill Burns complained to his Turkish counterpart after a Turkish drone strike nearly struck an American position:
CIA director Bill Burns strongly opposed Turkey’s bombing campaign against the Kurds in northern Syria during a call held with Turkish spy chief Hakan Fidan.
The call, according to Axios, was prompted by a Turkish drone attack on a base shared by the US and its Kurdish allies in Hasakah, Syria, which came within 300 metres of American troops.
U.S. policy in Syria has been an absurd one from the start, and this latest incident just underscores how divorced it is from any discernible U.S. security interests.
